I still don’t like you, Scott

Keep trying.

Are you there, Jesus? It’s me, obnoxiously loud person in a movie theater

October 4, 2008

I caught Religulous last night with Replicant & Lady T.  Certainly not a mind-blowing documentary but I don’t think Bill Maher, being a comedian to his core, meant it to be.  Accentuated by timely sound effect, music and video clips, it comes off as a funny movie.  I was discouraged, however, at the crowd lining I saw lining up for the movie.  Thinking the Circle would be a place that would attract more people closer to my age (and taste, so…obviously being hip is what I’m getting at), I was instead disappointed to be swarmed by Boomers.  Not only that, they couldn’t shut the hell up throughout the entire movie.  That aspect was awful & the lack of manners\self-awareness\whatever is what Replicant & I swear will drive us out of movie theaters for good.  Empty threats, I know, but let us vent.

p.s. I won VP Debate Bingo.  You’re reading the blog of a winner. How does that feel?

So, wait: just when I have this blogging thingy mastered, now comes micro-blogging? (Actually, it’s been out a while).

Move over Speak & Spell

April 18, 2008

I read a post on Gizmodo this morning that surprised me probably more than it should. It was about a visual search engine coming to the iPhone & the video below explains it. What captivated me was the potential for the next leap in search technology. Obviously, integrating voice search will be a major advancement in search, but visual search seems to be more feasible for the present. The concept of being able to take a picture of an item, even if that item is partially obstructed, and being able to submit it to a search engine got my mind to spinning. I know it may violate the concept of being unplugged, but imagine a hiker coming across a plant & wondering if it is safe to eat or if it, in the words of Ralph Wiggum after eating a berry from such a plant, “tastes like burning.” You could take a photo of a rash to see what it might be or a bug bite to see how to treat it or even a bug to see if it will try to kill you if you put it under a magnifying glass. Anyway, I think this concept is very cool & I look forward to seeing how it evolves.

Do androids dream of electric sheep?

March 21, 2008

I don’t know, but I do know they use neti pots. (The android makes its appearance at about 24 seconds.)

After a recent bout with sinusitis, I decided to buy a neti pot. I’m surprised how much I like to do it. There are surely real benefits to using it but I think it is benefiting my mental state the most. And I have learned that there is a wrong way to operate the neti pot:

Thank you, Internets, for your wisdom via a medium that doesn’t take effort on my part to understand. May your tubes be clear for a long time to come.

A beaver’s paradise

January 22, 2008

I stumbled upon the graveyard for all of Tulsa’s tree damage from the ice storm. They have taken over a giant swath of Johnson Park. I hope the photos & video can do justice to just how large the piles of tress and mounds of mulch were. Also, notice the white, jet engine-sized wood chipper in one of the pictures. Maybe this area was what that sleeping beaver was dreaming of…
